Some derivatives of this substance are known to act as potent and selective α2-adrenergic receptor antagonists, such as 1-(3-fluoro-2-pyridinyl)piperazine.A few pyridinylpiperazine derivatives are drugs, including: Azaperone-antipsychotic, Atevirdine-antiretroviral, Delavirdine-antiretroviral, Mirtazapine-antidepressant. 1-(2-Pyridyl)piperazine is a heterocyclic derivative, which can be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. 1-(2-Pyridyl)piperazine may be employed as reagent for the determination of both aliphatic and aromatic isocyanates in air by reversed-phase HPLC. It may be employed as reagent for the fluorometric determination of airborne diisocyantes. 1-(2-Pyridyl)piperazine is also a metabolite of Azaperone (A802200).
