1,1-Cyclohexanediacetic Anhydride (CAA) (CAS: 1010-26-0) is an intermediate of Gabapentin (CAS: 60142-96-3). Gabapentin is a structural analogue of the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) that was first approved for use in the United States in 1993. Gabapentin is a novel anti-epileptic drug and also an anxiolytic drug. Gabapentin has been shown to prevent epilepsy in various animal models. Gabapentin also shows effects in animal models of spasm, analgesia and amyotrophic sclerosis. Gabapentin has a high affinity for the novel binding sites of brain tissue. Gabapentin can pass through some barriers in the body through amino acid transfer bodies. Compared with other anticonvulsants, Gabapentin has less behavioral and cardiovascular side effects.
