It is a dichlorinated pyridine used in the synthesis of 2,5-substituted pyridine compounds. 2,5-Dichloropyridine was used in the synthesis of 6-halo-pyridin-3-yl boronic acids and esters. It undergoes cross-coupling reaction with arylboronic acids in the presence of [1,4-bis-(diphenylphosphine)butane]palladium (II) dichloride as catalyst.
