4-Chloro-L-Phenylalanine (H-Phe(4-Cl)-OH) (CAS: 14173-39-8), a non-proteinogenic L-alpha-amino acid that is L-phenylalanine in which the meta-hydrogen of the phenyl group has been replaced by a chlorine. 4-Chloro-L-Phenylalanine is an important raw material and intermediate used in organic synthesis, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals. 4-Chloro-L-Phenylalanine inhibits the synthesis of 5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). 4-Chloro-DL-phenylalanine (PCPA) depletes the serotonin levels in the brain by its inhibitory effect on tryptophan hydroxylase (Tph). Studies support the protective effects of PCPA against monocrotaline-induced pulmonary vascular remodeling as well as in lung inflammation.
