7783-56-4 - Application:

Antimony(III) Fluoride (Antimony Trifluoride; SbF3) (CAS: 7783-56-4) is used as a reagent in inorganic and organofluorine chemistry. It acts as a fluorination reagent and electroplating agent. Further, it is used in the preparation of dye, pottery, porcelains, ceramic enamels and glazes. Antimony(III) Fluoride is used as a fluorinating agent, catalyst, and as a flame retardant in various industries. Used to make other chemicals.
To catalyze fluorinations by HF, manufacture of chlorofluorides, in dyeing, usually in form of double salts, e.g., antimony sodium fluoride or antimony fluoride and ammonium sulfate double salt.
Antimony(III) Fluoride is a mild fluorinating agent that greatly increases its effectiveness when used together with chlorine, bromine, or antimony pentachloride as a fluorinating agent. Dissolve antimony trioxide in excess anhydrous hydrofluoric acid or hydrofluoric acid with a concentration of 55% or more, and then evaporate to dryness. Used for preparing antimony pentafluoride, composite metal fluoride, etc.
