It is used to synthesize diketopiperazine as an effective and selective oxytocin antagonist. It can also be used to prepare dihydroquinazolinamide with anti-inflammatory activity.
Cyclopentanecarboxaldehyde can be prepared from cyclohexene, via copper-catalyzed oxidation with persulfate. Cyclopentanecarboxaldehyde can also be synthesized from mercuric sulfate and cyclohexene.
