D-Alanine (H-DL-Val-OH) (CAS: 338-69-2) AJI 97 Test Method
D-Alanine, when dried, containes not less than 98.0 percent and not more than 101.0 percent of D-Alanine (C3H7NO2).
Identification: (1) To 5ml of a solution of D-Alanine (1→1000) add 1ml of 2% ninhydrin solution and heat for 3 minutes; a blue-purple color is produced.
(2) Dissolve 0.2g of D-Alanine in 10ml of dilute sulfuric acid (3→500), add 0.1g of potassium permanganate and heat on a small flame; a characteristic odor of acetaldehyde is perceptible.
Specific Rotation [α]20/D: Dried sample, C=10, 6mol/L HCl
State of Solution (Transmittance): 0.5g in 10ml of H2O, spectrophotometer, 430nm, 10mm cell thickness.
