DL-Cysteine (CAS: 3374-22-9) AJI 97 Test Method
Identification: Compare the infrared absorption spectrum of the sample with that of the standard by potassium bromide disc method.
State of Solution (Transmittance): 0.5g in 50ml of H2O, spectrophotometer, 430nm, 10mm cell thickness.
Chloride (Cl): 0.14g, A-5, ref: 0.40ml of 0.01mol/L HCl
Iron (Fe): 0.6g, ref: 0.3ml of Iron Std. (0.01mg/ml)
Heavy Metals (Pb): 2.0g, (1), ref: 2.0ml of Pb Std. (0.01mg/ml)
Arsenic (As2O3): 2.0g, (1), ref: 2.0ml of As2O3 Std.
Other Amino Acids: Test Sample: 10μg, A-2-a, control; L-Cystine 0.2μg
Loss on Drying: In vacuum, at room temperature for 3 hours.

Other Amino Acids:
Dissolve 200mg of the sample in 2% N-ethyl-maleimide aqueous solution to make 100ml of test solution. Dissolve 40mg of L-Cystine in small quantity of 2mol/L HCl and add water to make 100ml solution.
Dilute 10ml of the solution accurately in water to make 100ml of standard solution. Allow to stand for 30 minutes and then proceed as directed for procedure under AJI TEST 9.

DL-Cysteine is a covalently linked dimeric nonessential amino acid formed by the oxidation of CYSTEINE. Two molecules of cysteine are joined together by a disulfide bridge to form cystine. Cystine is a nonessential amino acid that acts as a nutrient and dietary supplement. It is very slightly soluble in water and in alcohol. it improves the biological quality of the total protein in foods containing naturally occurring intact protein.
DL-Cysteine is a non-essential amino acid that can be synthesized by the human body under normal physiological conditions if a sufficient quantity of methionine is available. Cysteine is commonly used as a precursor in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
