Application:

Methanesulfonic Anhydride (CAS: 7143-01-3) is the acid anhydride of Methanesulfonic Acid. Like Methanesulfonyl Chloride, it may be used to generate Mesylates (Methanesulfonyl Esters). Methanesulfonic Anhydride finds application in the reaction of aromatic alkylation. It reacts with dimethylsulfoxide to get sulfoxonium complex, which is a useful oxidizing agent. Methanesulfonic Anhydride is a reagent that is used in the synthesis of (R)-Amino Carnitine (A603400), which is an inhibitor of fatty acid oxidation.
