It is an acyl chloride, undergoes reactions typical of this class of compounds, such as replacement of hydroxyl, amino and active alpha hydrogen, hydrolysis, etc. Methanesulfonyl Chloride is used in chemical synthesis as leaving group or building block. Methanesulfonyl Chloride is a building block for agricultural and pharmaceutical chemicals synthesis. It also finds application and Dyes Manufacturing. The main use of methanesulfonyl chloride is the formation of Methanesulfonates from alcohols in the presence of a non-nucleophiclic base. Methanesulfonates are used as intermediates in substitution reactions, elimination reactions, reductions, and rearrangement reactions. It may also be used for the conversion of amines to the corresponding sulfonamides. Aminoalcohol group formationprotection reagent; intermediate for pharmaceuticals and pesticides; flame-resistant products; stabilizer for liquid sulfur trioxide. Methanesulfonyl Chloride is used as a reagent for conversion of alcohols to mesylate esters such as methanesulfonate, which is an intermediate in substitution reactions, elimination reactions, reductions, and rearrangement reactions viz.
