MOPSO Sodium Salt (CAS: 79803-73-9) is a zwitterionic buffering agent used in biochemistry and molecular biology that was selected and described by Good et al., structurally similar to MOPS, that is useful for a pH range of 6.2~7.6. It is a second generation “Good′s” buffer which displays improved solubility compared to traditional “Good′s” buffers. The pKa of MOPSO Sodium is 6.9 which make it an ideal candidate for buffer formulations which require a pH slightly below physiological to maintain a stable environment in solution. It is commonly used for cell culture media, as a running buffer in electrophoresis, and for protein purification with chromatography. Due to low ionic mobility, MOPSO is regarded as an excellent buffer for use in capillary electrochromatography. MOPSO Sodium is considered to be non-toxic to culture cell lines and provides high-solution clarity. MOPSO Sodium can be used in cell culture media, biopharmaceutical buffer formulations (both upstream and downstream) and diagnostic reagents. MOPSO based buffers have been described for fixation of cells from urine samples. As a buffer component in various biological applications including DNA gel electrophoresis.
