1-Adamantanethiol (CAS: 34301-54-7) is een nuttig reagens bij de bereiding van biologisch actieve polycycloalkanen en antivirale adamantaanderivaten.1-Adamantanethiol kan worden gebruikt om polyethyleenglycol-maleïmide op basis van foliumzuur te functionaliseren, dat kan worden gebruikt bij de ontwikkeling van mengsels op basis van gouden nanostaafjes (AuNR) voor spatiotemporele toediening van geneesmiddelen tegen kanker.Het kan ook worden gebruikt met 1-octadecaanthiol dat SAM vormt op palladium/aluminiumoxide (Pd/Al2O3) dat mogelijk wordt toegepast als gecontroleerde katalysator.
