Potassium Bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (0.5M Solution in Toluene) (commonly abbreviated as KHMDS) (CAS: 40949-94-8) is a strong, non-nucleophilic base with an approximate pKa of 26 (compare to lithium diisopropylamide, at 36). It is commercially available as a solid and as a solution in a variety of solvents (ex. THF, 2Me-THF, toluene, and MTBE). Similar reagents include lithium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (LiHMDS) and sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (NaHMDS). Non-nucleophilic megasteric strong base. Pharmaceutical intermediates, used in the production of synthetic cephalosporins. KHMDS is a chemical reagent used in preparative high-performance liquid chromatography. It is used to form stable complexes with potassium, which are then separated by the column. KHMDS is also used in biochemical research and as an asymmetric synthesis catalyst. KHMDS is a strong base used in the alkylation carbonyl compounds. KHMDS is used in the preparation of 5-Azacytidine, an antineoplastic drug. Also applied in the preparation of β3-AR agonists used in anti-stress formulations. It is also used as a reagent in the preparation of lanthanide complexes employed in selective cyclization reactions.
