Propionamide (CAS: 79-05-0) is a monocarboxylic acid amide obtained by the formal condensation of propionic acid with ammonia. Used for organic synthesis. For the synthesis of midecamycin drugs.
Results from the reaction of propionic acid with ammonia. Ammonia gas was introduced into the reactor to which n-propionic acid was added. When the temperature rose to about 140℃, all of the propionic acid produced ammonium propionate, and the ammonia flow was stopped. The crystals were cooled, filtered to give a crude product, and recrystallized from ethanol to give a finished product.
