Sodium 4-Aminosalicylate (CAS: 133-10-8) is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in acetone. It can be used as anti-tuberculosis drugs, mainly for the comprehensive treatment of tuberculosis infection. This product is similar to 4-Aminobenzoic acid (PABA) in structure, is a congener of PABA. It inhibits the growth and reproduction of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by competitive inhibition of folate synthesis. This product is only effective against mycobacteria, not atypical mycobacteria. When used alone, can rapidly develop drug resistance. This product must be combined with other anti-tuberculosis drugs, such as streptomycin and isoniazid, which can delay the production of drug resistance of tuberculosis bacilli to the latter two. Clinically, it is mainly used for pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is also used in hyperthyroidism and has a strong effect on lowering blood lipids.
